What does each calculator work out?

  • Savings calculator. Four questions (your state, bill, home and what you have now) give the installed price after rebates, the first year's savings and the payback for solar only, solar with a battery, or a battery for existing solar. It uses your state's reference electricity plan unless you enter your own rates, and shows an optional virtual power plant scenario separately.
  • Battery rebate calculator. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount for a usable size and install period, with the size tiers, the next step-down and each state's top-ups. A 15 kWh battery installed now gets about $3,663.
  • Solar rebate calculator. Your small-scale technology certificates by postcode, system size and install year to 2030: 6.6 kW in Sydney gets about $1,665 this year.

How do the calculators get their figures?

Every rebate figure is computed from our versioned rules table: the battery certificate rate for each six-month period and the size tiers, the solar zone ratings for every postcode and the deeming years to 2030, the assumed certificate value (about $37 after fees), and each state's programs with their status. We check the table against the regulator's published rules and date every check; the latest was 26 September 2026. Prices in the savings calculator are typical market ranges, not one installer's prices.

The calculators are for comparing options and checking a quote. For a price for your own home, with your roof, your bill and every rebate applied, enter your address on the homepage: you get one vetted local installer's price, and you can ask for another any time. Questions people ask

Which calculator should I use?

To see whether solar, a battery or both pay off, use the savings calculator. To check one rebate figure on a quote, use the battery rebate calculator (federal battery discount by size and install date) or the solar rebate calculator (STCs by postcode, size and year).

Where do the rebate figures come from?

From our rules table, built from the Clean Energy Regulator's and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's published rules and checked against them (last verified 26 September 2026). When a rule changes we add a new dated version; figures are never typed into the pages.

Are the results a quote?

No. They're estimates for comparison. Your installer confirms the system, the certificate value and the final price after a site check.

Do I need to sign up?

No. All three calculators work without an account or a phone number. You only give details if you ask for your own price from a vetted installer.

When do the rebates drop next?

The battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027 (from the installation date, not the signing date), and the solar rebate shrinks every 1 January until 2030.
