Privacy policy
Homerise is operated by Homerise Energy, a trading name of Pipereply Pty Ltd (ACN 666 436 586, ABN 71 666 436 586), a private company based in Brisbane, Queensland, not affiliated with any government agency.
In short: we collect what we need to estimate your system, share it with one installer only when you ask, never sell it, and only send marketing if you opt in.
1. Who we are
Homerise helps Australian households and businesses understand solar and battery systems, see an estimated price with the rebates explained, and connect with one participating installer at a time. Homerise is operated by Homerise Energy, a trading name of Pipereply Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the personal information described here.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and your choices. Our collection notice is the short version shown when you start an estimate.
2. What we collect
We only ask for what we need to prepare your estimate and, if you choose, your installer's proposal. Depending on how far you go, that is:
- About your home: your goals (for example lower bills or a battery), your address, roof type, storeys, household size, what is installed now and, if you already have solar, its size, age, condition, when you use most electricity, whether you are on a premium feed-in tariff and whether a battery rebate has been claimed at the property.
- About your energy use: your approximate power bill and, if you upload it, your power bill, which can include your retailer, plan, usage, tariffs, NMI and meter number.
- Contact details: your first name and mobile number (verified with a one-time code), then your surname and email when you are matched with an installer.
- Your choices: the system, package and components you pick, whether you asked for help choosing, your backup preference, and whether you chose to continue with the matched installer and whether you asked them to call you now.
- Site information, if you provide it: photos of your meter box, switchboard and house, and a map of where panels and equipment could go, marked on satellite imagery of your address.
- For businesses: your business name, ABN, your role, site address, energy use and bills, and, if you give it, an authority for us or our modelling partner to request your electricity interval data using your NMI.
- Rebate alerts, if you sign up: your email and state, and the time and wording of your consent.
- Technical and advertising information: your IP address, device and browser type, pages you visit, the ad or link that brought you here (campaign tags and click identifiers), and cookies described in section 9.
We don't ask for sensitive information such as health or financial account details, or government identifiers other than a business's ABN. Please avoid capturing people, or documents that aren't needed, in photos you upload.
3. How we collect it
Mostly directly from you, as you use the estimate and proposal steps. Some information is created from what you give us: for example, your usage is estimated from your bill amount, and roof details come from satellite and solar data for your address. When you upload a power bill, the details on it are read automatically (see section 6). If you arrive from an ad, the ad platform may pass us the campaign and click identifiers in the link.
You can read our guides and rebate pages without telling us who you are. To see a personalised estimate we need a verified Australian mobile number, so we can save your quote and stop automated misuse. You can use a first name only until you are matched with an installer.
4. How we use it
- to prepare your estimate and, after you choose to continue, a preliminary proposal using the matched installer's own products and prices;
- to save your progress and contact you about your enquiry, for example sending your verification code, a link to upload photos, or a reply to your questions;
- to match you with a participating installer and, when you ask, pass your enquiry to them;
- to confirm with installers whether an enquiry led to a sale, because installers pay us a fee when you buy (section 5);
- to measure and improve our advertising, website and estimates;
- to prevent fraud, spam and misuse, and to meet our legal obligations;
- to send you rebate updates, rebate alerts and energy tips, only if you ticked a box or signed up to receive them.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't make telemarketing calls. We only call you if you ask us or your installer to.
6. Automated decisions and AI
Some parts of Homerise use computer programs to make or help with decisions about you. In particular:
- Your estimate (system size, battery size, price, rebates and savings) is calculated automatically from your answers, current rebate rules and market or installer prices. It is indicative only: the installer's accredited designer confirms the system and price.
- Which installer you are offered is decided automatically, in a set order among the installers who cover your postcode and meet our published standard. The fee installers pay doesn't affect the order.
- Uploaded power bills are read by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) to pull out details such as usage and tariffs. You can check and correct what it reads, and the bill itself goes to your installer.
- Piper shows general tips about rebates, batteries and payback along the way. They aren't a quote or financial advice.
These decisions don't stop you getting a quote: you can ask your installer to review anything, request another installer, or contact us to ask how a decision about you was made.
7. Storage and overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States (Twilio, Google, Anthropic, HighLevel and Meta). Cloudflare runs a global network and may process information in other countries where it has data centres. We choose providers with strong security practices and take reasonable steps, including contract terms, so they handle your information consistently with the APPs.
8. Security and how long we keep it
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and private file storage. Uploaded photos and bills are stored privately and shared with your installer through links that expire. Cost prices and other installer data never go to your browser. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the law requires.
We keep your information while your enquiry is active and afterwards only as long as we need it: to answer questions, confirm fees with installers (usually within 12 months), and meet legal and tax record-keeping obligations. After that we delete or de-identify it.
My quotes. So you can sign back in and compare your quotes, we keep a record of your quote reference, first name, state and postcode, the installers you were introduced to, their preliminary proposals and any notes you write in My quotes. It's stored with Cloudflare in its Oceania region and linked to a coded (hashed) version of your mobile, not the number itself. Your notes are private: we don't share them with installers, and we only look at them if you ask us to help with your enquiry. We keep this record for 24 months after you last used it (your last step in an estimate, sign-in or note), then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time (see your enquiry).
Feedback about an installer. If you choose to tell us how things went with an installer, we keep your answers with your enquiry to check and improve the service our installers give. It's private: it isn't a public review, we don't publish it or use it as a testimonial, and we only share your comment with that installer if you tick the box allowing it (so they can respond). If you raise a concern, someone from Homerise may contact you about it.
10. Messages and marketing
We send messages about your enquiry, such as your verification code, your estimate or proposal, upload links and replies. Rebate updates and energy tips are separate: we only send them if you tick the box, and every message tells you how to stop. Reply STOP to a text, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or email hello@homerise.com.au.
11. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing hello@homerise.com.au. We'll confirm who you are (usually with a code sent to your mobile) and respond within 30 days. There's no charge. If we refuse a request, we'll explain why and how to complain. For information an installer holds, contact that installer.
12. Questions and complaints
If you have a question or a complaint about how we handle your information, email hello@homerise.com.au with the details. We'll acknowledge it within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au, phone 1300 363 992.
13. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when our practices change, and show the date at the top. If a change materially affects information we already hold, we'll tell you before it applies.
