What rebates can Brisbane homes get?

Brisbane is in STC zone 3, so the federal solar rebate is about $1,665 on a 6.6 kW system, and the federal battery rebate about $3,663 on a 15 kWh battery, if installed now; both fall from 1 January 2027. They're already taken off the prices above. There's no Queensland Government solar or battery program open to homeowners right now. How much power does solar make in Brisbane?

Each kW of panels in Brisbane makes about 1,500 kWh a year: about 150 kWh a month in the sunniest months and about 95 in May, the lowest month (PVWatts, panels facing north at 20°). A 6.6 kW system makes about 10,000 kWh a year. Brisbane's winters are mild for solar, so a system sized for winter isn't much bigger than one sized for the year.

How much does power cost in Brisbane?

On the Energex default market offer for 2026-27, power costs about 28c a kWh plus about $1.92 a day in supply charges, and the typical feed-in tariff is about 4c. So each kWh of solar you use yourself is worth about 7 times one you export: that's what makes a battery, or moving use into the day, pay in Brisbane. Free midday power: the Solar Sharer Offer

Most Brisbane postcodes are in the south-east Queensland area where larger retailers offer three free hours a day, 11am to 2pm, up to 24 kWh. A battery on a small solar system can top up for free on cloudy days; without a battery, the free hours suit hot water, the pool pump and washing. Compare the whole plan before switching.
