Sigenergy SigenStor battery: sizes, backup, warranty and VPPs (2026)

Guides · Homerise team · Reviewed by Joern Haake · Published 15 October 2026 · Rebate figures verified 26 September 2026 · How we write guides

The short answer

An all-in-one system: the Sigen Energy Controller (a hybrid solar and battery inverter) with stackable battery modules underneath, and an optional DC charging module for an electric car. Sizes: 6 kWh and 9 kWh usable modules (earlier 5.2 and 7.8 kWh), 1 to 6 per controller; the approved list runs up to 54 kWh usable. The warranty is 10 years on the battery and the Energy Controller; 70% of usable capacity at 10 years or a throughput limit, whichever comes first. It's on the approved list for the federal battery rebate (about $3,663 on 15 kWh if installed now), and Amber SmartShift, AGL VPP, Origin (Loop), ENGIE VPP and GloBird ZEROHERO VPP list it. Facts from Sigenergy's Australian datasheets and warranty, checked 15 October 2026.

What the Sigenergy SigenStor is

An all-in-one system: the Sigen Energy Controller (a hybrid solar and battery inverter) with stackable battery modules underneath, and an optional DC charging module for an electric car. It's imported and supported in Australia by Sigenergy Australia Pty Ltd (North Sydney).

ModulesBAT 6.0 (6.0 kWh usable) and BAT 10.0 (9.0 kWh usable)
PhasesSingle-phase controllers 5 to 12 kW; three-phase 5 to 30 kW.
PowerEach module adds power: about 3 kW (BAT 6.0) or 4.6 kW (BAT 10.0) continuous, up to the controller's rating.

Can you add a Sigenergy battery to existing solar?

Sigenergy's Australian pages describe SigenStor as a hybrid system for the panels it connects to. If you already have solar, ask the installer how your existing inverter would connect. See adding a battery to existing solar.

How does Sigenergy blackout backup work?

Whole-home backup needs the Sigen Energy Gateway (the HomePro gateway has 100 A grid and backup ports); with it, Sigenergy quotes a 0 ms switch-over.

What warranty does a Sigenergy battery have?

The Sigenergy battery warranty is 10 years on the battery and the Energy Controller; 70% of usable capacity at 10 years or a throughput limit, whichever comes first.

  • Throughput limit: 22.19 MWh for a BAT 6.0 module and 33.29 MWh for a BAT 10.0 (about 3.7 MWh per kWh), with no unlimited-cycle allowance for self-consumption.
  • It needs an internet connection: after 90 days offline the system goes into a safe operating mode, and after more than a year offline cover drops to 5 years.
  • Claims within 30 days of a fault; the warranty passes to a new owner if the system stays at the same address.

How much is the battery rebate on a Sigenergy battery?

The federal battery rebate on a Sigenergy battery depends on its usable size and the installation date: it's the same for every approved brand of the same usable size. On the Clean Energy Council approved list; the BAT 6.0 and BAT 10.0 configurations were approved on 16 April 2026.

Federal battery rebate by usable size (estimate, any approved brand)
Usable sizeInstalled nowFrom 1 January 2027
10 kWh$2,516$2,109
15 kWh$3,663$3,071
20 kWh$4,403$3,700
30 kWh$5,698$4,773

Recalls

In November 2025 Sigenergy recalled some single-phase SigenStor Energy Controllers (EC 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 kW SP AU, sold 4 March to 18 November 2025) because the AC plug could overheat. The remedy is a firmware update and a free replacement plug, plus 2 extra years of warranty. The battery modules weren't part of the recall.

How much does a Sigenergy battery cost?

A Sigenergy battery's price depends on the size, the inverter and your home more than the badge. Across brands, most homes pay about $700 to $850 per kWh installed after the federal rebate (October 2026); large modular batteries can be lower. See solar battery cost, or get a price for your home.

Who it suits, and what to check

It suits:

  • Homes that want whole-home backup through one system (with the Gateway)
  • Three-phase homes and large solar arrays (up to 30 kW three-phase)
  • Homes planning an electric car, through the optional DC charging module
  • Joining a VPP: it's on every main list we checked

Check before you buy:

  • The warranty depends on a permanent internet connection
  • The performance warranty is throughput-limited for all uses
  • If your controller was sold between March and November 2025, check the recall was done
