GoodWe ESA and Lynx batteries: sizes, backup, warranty and VPPs (2026)

Guides · Homerise team · Reviewed by Joern Haake · Published 15 October 2026 · Rebate figures verified 26 September 2026 · How we write guides

The short answer

The ESA is an all-in-one: inverter and battery modules in one stacked unit. The Lynx Home F G2 is a high-voltage battery for GoodWe's ET and EH hybrid inverters. Sizes: ESA: modules of 5, 5.9, 8 and 8.85 kWh usable, 5 to 108 kWh in total (up to 12 modules, 6 per stack). Lynx Home F G2: 6.4 to 28.8 kWh in 3.2 kWh modules. The warranty is 10 years on the ESA battery modules and inverter; 70% of usable energy at 10 years or a throughput limit, whichever comes first. It's on the approved list for the federal battery rebate (about $3,663 on 15 kWh if installed now), and Amber SmartShift, Origin (Loop) and ENGIE VPP list it. Facts from GoodWe's Australian datasheets and warranty, checked 15 October 2026.

What the GoodWe ESA and Lynx Home batteries is

The ESA is an all-in-one: inverter and battery modules in one stacked unit. The Lynx Home F G2 is a high-voltage battery for GoodWe's ET and EH hybrid inverters. It's imported and supported in Australia by GoodWe Australia Pty Ltd (Rowville, VIC).

SizesESA: modules of 5, 5.9, 8 and 8.85 kWh usable, 5 to 108 kWh in total (up to 12 modules, 6 per stack). Lynx Home F G2: 6.4 to 28.8 kWh in 3.2 kWh modules.
ModulesESA modules 5.0, 5.9, 8.0 and 8.85 kWh usable
PhasesESA single-phase 3 to 10 kW (with solar inputs, or an AC-coupled version), three-phase 5 to 30 kW.
PowerThe ESA's battery discharge runs from about 3.3 kW (3 kW model) to 11 kW (10 kW model); backup output is the rated power, or double for 10 seconds.
BuildLFP, IP66 (inverter and modules), wall or floor; the battery discharges from −20 to 55 °C.

Can you add a GoodWe battery to existing solar?

The single-phase ESA comes in an AC-coupled version without solar inputs, made for adding a battery to existing solar. See adding a battery to existing solar.

How does GoodWe blackout backup work?

The ESA switches to backup in under 4 ms and has a 63 A internal bypass for whole-home backup.

What warranty does a GoodWe battery have?

The GoodWe battery warranty is 10 years on the ESA battery modules and inverter; 70% of usable energy at 10 years or a throughput limit, whichever comes first.

  • Throughput limit: 18.25 MWh for the 5 kWh module and 29.20 MWh for the 8 kWh module.
  • Report a fault quickly: the warranty asks for claims within weeks of a failure.
  • The Lynx Home F G2 warranty requires an internet connection for monitoring.

How much is the battery rebate on a GoodWe battery?

The federal battery rebate on a GoodWe battery depends on its usable size and the installation date: it's the same for every approved brand of the same usable size. ESA battery modules are on the Clean Energy Council approved list (the 6 and 9 kWh modules since July 2026).

Federal battery rebate by usable size (estimate, any approved brand)
Usable sizeInstalled nowFrom 1 January 2027
10 kWh$2,516$2,109
15 kWh$3,663$3,071
20 kWh$4,403$3,700
30 kWh$5,698$4,773

Estimates at an STC value of $37. More: the solar battery rebate.

Recalls

In September 2025 GoodWe recalled some EHB hybrid inverters (GW5K, 8.6K and 9.99K-EHB-AU-G11) because using the bypass switch in backup mode could cause an electric shock; the fix is a firmware update. GoodWe batteries weren't part of it.

How much does a GoodWe battery cost?

A GoodWe battery's price depends on the size, the inverter and your home more than the badge. Across brands, most homes pay about $700 to $850 per kWh installed after the federal rebate (October 2026); large modular batteries can be lower. See solar battery cost, or get a price for your home.

Who it suits, and what to check

It suits:

  • Adding a battery to existing solar with one product (the AC-coupled ESA)
  • Large batteries in one system: up to 108 kWh
  • Whole-home backup with a fast switch-over
  • Amber customers: the ESA is in Amber's SmartShift beta

Check before you buy:

  • Whether whole-home backup needs switchboard work at your home
  • Which VPP you want: AGL and GloBird didn't list GoodWe when we checked
  • That faults are reported quickly, as the warranty asks
